AIR TRAVEL

Where to find good flight deals? How much should I expect to pay?

We’ve heard promising things about flying to Italy via Meridiana, Norwegian, Icelandic Air and WOW Air airlines. We’re checking them out and will report back on any good deals we find. [If you come across any good deals, send a message and we’ll add them here.]

On average, you should be able to get a round trip ticket from San Diego/LAX area to Italy for $1500 or better if you find a deal.

This just in: On Kayak you can go LAX to Florence round trip (using dates for the Tuscany Tour) for $1023, and as low as $847 if you don’t mind a little extra time in transit. (Airberlin, Swissair and Turkish Airlines are some of the carriers that come up.) Meanwhile, Air France starts at $1575 round trip – a sharp difference. But they do have excellent flight times and connections thru Paris, Rome, Amsterdam.

Air fare sleuthing tip: When going back to a website to scoop up that great fare you found earlier, be sure to clear your browser history first, otherwise the website will recognize you and show you a higher price.  You instantly feel bad you missed out and feel pressured to buy on the spot, lest this one go away too.

Why isn’t air travel part of the tour package?

Rather than offering a one-flight-fits-all deal, we prefer to give travelers the opportunity to use the airline(s) of their choice and customize their pre- and post-tour travel plans.

Is it true that flights from the U.S. arrive to Europe on the following calendar day?

Yes. For example, a flight leaving the US on a Saturday will arrive in Italy on Sunday.
