Spanish Fluency Through Story & Conversation

7–9 PM | 8 Wednesdays: June 7 – August 2 | (No class 7/5)

     Like a Spanish class and a book club all rolled into one, this enjoyable course will have you improving your Spanish skills while reading an interesting story — an engaging and fun way improve your Spanish!

     The story will be our springboard to hearing, reading and practicing Spanish. The class will include work on reading and pronunciation, building your vocabulary, and improving your speaking confidence.

     Activities will include listening to, reading and interpreting the story; guided in-class discussions; and online practice exercises to help you with vocabulary and grammar outside of class. Story is in present and past tenses.

Open to all levels of students; most appropriate to those with basic grammar knowledge (adv. beginner) and beyond. Note: The class is not intended for complete beginners.

Learning Spanish is fun when you’re reading an entertaining story! That’s just what you’ll do in this class, which is like a book club where you learn and improve your Spanish.

We’ll read the short Spanish book (geared specifically for Spanish learners) “Frida Kahlo” about the life of one of Mexico’s greatest artists. An icon of strength, this brief biography provides a glimpse into her turbulent life and symbolic art.

The story will be a springboard to hearing, reading and practicing Spanish. This is a very enjoyable and rewarding way to approach learning the language. You’ll be pleased at the improvement you see in your comprehension!

Bonus: Maestra Jodina will have recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica, making this course even more relevant!

Independent Spanish Class |  Wednesdays 7-9PM:  Dec. 2, 9, 16, Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27

A great opportunity to study, practice and improve your Spanish in an interactive class setting.  Our class vehicle will be a popular series of comic strips in Spanish dealing with daily life subjects so that you can learn language that will help you speak and understand Spanish that you can readily apply in your life.  This lively, supportive class is for advanced beginners (those who already know some basic Spanish) and intermediate students. Join a fun group of dedicated Spanish learners for a satisfying, productive Wednesday evening!

This innovative class is open to all levels, including beginners/advanced beginners. (A very basic grounding or better in the language is recommended.)

We will prove that a picture really is worth a thousand words, and draw on pictures depicting scenes of life in Spain and Latin America to “tell the story”.  The aim of the class is to give students more confidence in using the language by encouraging them to use the Spanish they already know and to build on it during the course. This immersive-style class exposes students to Spanish in a variety of fun and interesting ways and gets students comfortable interacting with each other using the language. Students will improve their speaking, listening, and reading skills – from whatever level they are at.  Come join us!

The most important ingredient in speaking a foreign language is not perfect grammatical knowledge or even flawless fluency – it’s CONFIDENCE!  The aim of the class is to give students more confidence in using the language.  This immersive-style class exposes students to Spanish in a variety of fun and interesting ways and gets students comfortable interacting with each other using the language. Students will improve their speaking, listening, and reading skills – from whatever level they are at. We’ll achieve this aim through compelling materials in Spanish – from current news and culture stories and comic strips (humor is a great learning tool!), to pictures and music.
